While one might assume that downtown becomes a ghost town after sunset as tourists head back to their hotel rooms and finance guys leave their offices, South Street Seaport not only offers some great dining and drinking options, but it also does it with a waterfront view. Start at Acqua, with its big front windows and brick exterior, for some upscale coastal Italian cuisine. Revel in handmade pasta, from spaghetti with lobster to gnocchi with pesto. Don't overlook the mains either, which include fresh seafood received daily. The wine list features options from all over Italy and is perfect for luxuriating in the peaceful ambiance.
Don't fill yourself too much, though, as your next destination is Bar Wayō, a new bar from Chef David Chang with a light tiki theme. The space is light and playful with clean lines subtly accented by greenery. The biggest draw is the view of the water, beautifully framed through the beams of the outdoor space. While you won't necessarily find paper umbrellas or bamboo-shaped glasses, they do have a refreshing menu of cocktails like a Melon Creamy Soda and South Street Sling. If you do want something a little more festive, order the Elvis Zombie, peanut butter-washed rum blend with velvet falernum, domo mix, herbsaint, and lime, which comes in a fish-shaped ceramic cup.
