Enter Alice's Whimsical Wonderland Before Dining At An Antique Restaurant In BK Heights

Bad news! This plan has expired. Go check out some great new ideas here.

“Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast,” said the Queen of Hearts, and one of those is that cupcakes totally count as breakfast. Grab one, or a famous scone (vegan available!), along with a cup of local Brooklyn Roasting Company coffee at the new Alice’s Teacup Brooklyn Heights outpost—Alice’s Teacup To Go, open daily 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Tea is definitely still on the menu, including the eponymous Alice’s Tea blend, as will be pre-made sandwiches and soups, along with other tasty pastries. Prepped as a “to-go” café, there are just a few seats to cozy up on, including a whimsy turquoise couch set against an apt key patterned wallpaper, offset by mushroom stools, of course. If you’d prefer a whimsy sit-down teatime experience (or brunch or lunch), check out Alice’s Teacups in the city: Chapter 1 and Chapter II. If the weather agrees, head to Cadman Plaza Park, the Promenade or for a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge.

After your sugar fix at Alice’s, dine down the street at Jack the Horse Tavern. Definitely not a newbie, JtH is a longtime neighborhood favorite gathering place. Since 2006, the restaurant has been serving up tasty meals, including a crispy mixed herb polenta and grilled Berkshire pork chops, by owner and chef Tim Oltman who honed his skills at Gramercy Tavern and Tabla to name a few. The upscale pub, dotted with exposed brick walls, antique clocks, wood furnishings and inviting overstuffed pillows, welcomes guests for dinner 5:30-10 p.m. Monday-Thursday, and until 10:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. If you're not ready for the night to end, check out JtH's sister next door, Oyster Room, open every day but Sunday. The smaller location seats 16, and its menu boasts five varieties of oysters from both coasts, plus $1 oysters from 5:15-7 p.m. Monday - Friday.
