This Venezuelan Eatery in Bushwick Is All About the Authenticity, Down to Its Mother-Chef

There are no frills at the bustling little eatery Arepera Guacuco. Committed only to authenticity, this spot serves all of its zesty, savory dishes exactly the way they’re served in Venezuela, with a mother-chef that hails from the country itself. The Arepas are made fresh for each customer and packed with the perfect mealy flavor, lightly-oiled and richly stuffed with a variety of fillings. Indulge in the Pernil, made with juicy pork shoulder and cheddar cheese; the Pabellon, with shredded beef, white cheese, sweet plantains, and black beans; or the dreamy Vegetariana, with slices of fresh avocado, Guyanese cheese, and sweet plantains. Coupled with a plate of salty Tostones and perhaps an empanada or two, you and your person will be eating deliciously and decadently.

You’ll want a place to stretch out after stuffing yourselves with luscious arepas, and the big leather booths of nautically-themed The Three Diamond Door are just the spot. Simple dark wood counters, black bar stools, and dim lights make it an ace place to sit back, order up a tasty tequila cocktail, and let loose.
