Every Thursday Tango La Nacional, the hub of a non-for-profit Spanish cultural center, turns into the hottest milonga this side of the equator. No matter how many left feet you have, the beginner and intermediate classes early in the night will have you feeling groovy and romantic. The open dance social starts at 9:30, and it’s worth staying to see the best dancers strut their stuff. Whether you plan to just watch or enter the fray under the multicolored string lights, make sure to stay hydrated with a Fernet and Coke from the bar—a Buenos Aires version of a rum and coke with a herbaceous twist.

Fuel up for your dance just a few steps away at the Latin diner Coppelia. Splashes of yellow paint and Spanish arches brighten up the typical diner interior, while classic Cuban cuisine and Latin favorites augment typical American dishes on the menu. Don’t be afraid to wash down an order of Oxtail Empanadas or Lomo Saltado with something from the old-school soda fountain; or better yet, a cocktail dreamed up by house mixologist Miguel Maldonado.
