At this festive Brazilian restaurant, you’ll find yourselves transported to the beaches of Sao Paulo, complete with a friendly, neighborhood vibe and occasional live music acts to spice up the evening. Though the Beco team makes a mean caipirinha, it touts its signature drink as the Maracuja Caipiroska (passion fruit cocktail). But it’s not just about the drinks — the menu features traditional Brazilian light fare like moqueca (Brazilian fish stew) and feijoada (the National Brazilian dish: black beans and smoked pork stew), as well as daily chef’s specials. Beco accepts cash only, so be sure to hit an ATM before you stop by.
After dinner, head to Pete’s Candy Store (note: not an actual candy store!) for some live music, an open mic, a reading series—or something else entirely that's really cool. Come for the main event, but show up early or plan to stay late to get a glimpse of the next big thing in New York’s music scene. In true Brooklyn style, look forward to the day the two of you can tell your friends you got to see that hot indie band everyone loves before everyone else was into them. It’s always free to get in, but Pete’s suggests a $5 donation to support local artists and venues.
