It's Time You Go See Billy Joel at Madison Square Garden
Seeing an artist with 23 Grammy nominations at an iconic venue? Not too shabby for date night, though definitely pricey (but worth it—23 Grammy nominations!). This tiered venue makes sure even in the nosebleeds you have a decent view of the piano man, plus jumbo screens so you can see each chord progression up close and personal. MSG rises above standard concert venue fare of hot dogs and stale popcorn with NYC favorites—think spicy fried chicken from Momofuku, teriyaki rice bowls from Kobeyaki, and top-notch tacos from La Esquina. You’ll pay through the nose, but hey, if watching Billy Joel croon with a local craft beer in one hand and a deep-fried Arancini ball in the other is wrong, who wants to be right? He has monthly shows so take a look at the calendar to choose which performance you can make. Get there at least an hour early—security moves quickly, but there will be hella crowds for this piano legend.
Pre-game or post-game (or both) at the nearby Tempest Bar. This Irish bar pours a mean Guinness, but won’t roll their eyes if you’re feeling like knocking back a Lemon Drop. The bartenders are extremely friendly and social, so don’t get overwhelmed if you see a crowd by the bar—further back are some oft-neglected booths to snuggle into. If you’re feeling competitive, you can knock around some pool balls or throw darts for just a couple of bucks. They have a high card minimum, so bring cash if you’re drinking light.
