Beets Galore & Old-School Soda Fountains In Brooklyn

First, do as Michael Jackson said and beet it at the Brooklyn Beet Company. This cozy restaurant has a unique vintage-chic atmosphere at first glance, with an impressive glassed-in entrance and unique wooden bench seating, but the real pull here is in the menu. Nearly everything is rocking a red tint with the addition of its staple ingredient: beets. From their go-to favorite Brooklyn Beet korzo burger to a dish that’s literally just called The Beet (it’s some cheesy, veggie-filled goodness), this place is a must-try for New York locals. And it may feel like overkill, but you both need to pair your meals with the B’klyn Beet ‘Tini.

After dinner, head over to Anopoli for a low-key trip back in time. A legitimate throwback to old-school soda fountains, this ice cream parlor offers up a sugary nightcap with ice cream sodas that include more options than you probably knew existed, homemade ice creams (we’re partial to the maple walnut for those autumn vibes), and a no-frills vibe that doubles as a love letter to the past with charming retro memorabilia. In a city that won’t stop moving, this is seriously the ideal cooling off spot.
