It’s not often that vegan restaurants can boast a cult following, but Bushwick’s retro diner Champs has that distinct honor. With lines often out the door at all hours of the day, we’d say the BK hipsters have found their mothership when it comes to vegan comfort food. Tonight, see what it’s all about and chow down on guilty pleasure favorites like mozzarella sticks, buffalo tempeh wings, s’mores pancakes, and birthday cake ice cream shakes.
If you like The Wayland in the East Village, you’ll feel right at home in Bushwick at The Topaz, a cocktail bar designed by the same team. This hidden gem has excellent cocktails—we recommend the Dead Man’s Mask, made with black cardamom bourbon, lemon, smoked honey, pineapple, and dead sea salt—and to seal the deal, there’s also a fantastic daily happy hour and bar dog. What’s not to love?
