Feast on Pan-Indian Fare Before Hanging Out in a Relaxed Bar

If you and your lover want the customization of Chipotle but with different flavors—because, let’s be real, you’ve been sharing the same burrito bowl since 2014—then head to Dalup Modern Indian. This fast-casual place keeps it simple but cheery with a neutral color palette, bright lights, and decorative archways that add some character. With a goal of serving up pan-Indian food that’s been made lighter and healthier (but with all the same great flavor), they have customizable curries, hearty vegetable salads, dosas, and chutneys all for decent (Manhattan) prices. A portion of their profits goes to Girls Who Code, so you can feel good about your decision to share eight pieces of naan.
To cool any lingering spice on your tongue, head to Pioneers Bar. A combination of its proximity to the nearby comedy theater The PIT and its fun yet relaxed vibe makes this place feel like the hangout every time. The bar has a good selection of draft beers and weekly cocktail specials that are creative and strong. At the front of the bar are a few pinball machines, but the real fun is in the back where bar and stools give way to plush couches and tables holding oversized Connect 4 and giant Jenga. Don’t worry if Jenga goes awry—you can always take out your frustration on their boxing arcade game or laugh mirthfully at the other drunk people taking a swing.
