Looking for something macabre? Evolution Nature Store boasts some unique stuff including fossils, specimens—even snake skeletons. This place is for the science, geology, and artifact nerds. You’ll feel like you’re on a museum tour with a stellar gift shop, where they sell everything from taxidermy to desk globes. Aside from that, it’s a cool place to walk around and look at all of the different collectibles. Big ticket items at this store can be pricey, but some of the smaller finds like their snowglobes and trinkets are more reasonable. The staff is knowledgeable about all of their pieces, so ask away.

Next, grab a bite to eat nearby at Mamoun’s, a Greenwich Village staple, serving middle eastern fast food on MacDougal Street since 1971. At this casual joint, you can get a falafel sandwich that’s rumored to be one of the most authentic in NYC for just $4. Now that’s a cheap date. They operate on a cash-only policy and have limited seating, so make sure to bring some dough with you and either pick up to-go or snag a seat.
