Take A Field Trip At This Rice Bowl Spot, Then Get Fancy At Sugar Monk
Whether you’re hopping on the subway, taking a cab, biking, or walking…just make sure your trip ends at FieldTrip. Opened by Chef JJ Johnson, (his co-authored cookbook won a 2019 James Beard Award), this fast-casual restaurant in Harlem is taking rice bowls to the next level. Per FieldTrip’s mantra, “rice is culture,” each type of rice bowl on the menu will take you on a different cultural experience. We’re talking high quality ingredients and sustainable products for an affordable price. Although the main focus here is rice bowls, you can also order fun sides like crab pockets, yucca puffs, and even soft serve ice cream (made of rice milk!). Bonus: there’s beer & wine on tap.
From rice to riches…or at least for an upscale swanky vibe, walk over to Sugar Monk for craft cocktails. Imagine a Harlem renaissance/1930s speakeasy vibe with a menu of over 30 specialty drinks. These cocktails alone could be classified as art. Not only are they pretty to look at, they’re even better to actually drink.
