East River Views And Tacos At Tacocina
The modern bar setup at Freehold is nothing if not hip, refined, and meticulously detailed—offering up a refurbished warehouse-style gastropub that rocks a retro aesthetic with a white, wood, and yellow palette and summery west coast atmosphere. Between the exposed wooden ceiling and scattered skylights, wood framed accents, and massive outdoor space lined with summer-appropriate vegetation, Freehold has your warm cheery vibes covered. When it comes to snacks and drinks, Tuna Poke Tostadas with their unbelievably refreshing house cocktail the Waterbury (with vodka, house blended fresh Watermelon, and lime) or the Yuka Croquettes (with pepper jack cheese, cayenne, lime-cilantro aioli) alongside their lobby cocktail One Way Ticket (with tequila, pineapple, cinnamon, and lime).
After dinner, head to Tacocina. You drank some craft cocktails, you nibbled on shared plates, but now is time for the main course—and it’s even more laid back than Freehold. This colorful outdoor eatery is hard to miss, with its towering turquoise steel beams and massive illuminated sign (the shoreline location on the East River is the icing on the cake), but the main draw here is the tacos. Between their Chicken Tinga, Mushroom and Cheese, and Monterey & Cotija tacos. The flavors are as bold as they are no doubt unrivaled in the entire Brooklyn borough. Stare at the city lights, fall in love all over again, and don’t neglect your napkins, because these handheld beauties are unapologetically messy. If you two really want to spoil yourselves, we recommend sharing the Apple Cider Churros and Caramel Dip. You both deserve it.
