Bobby Flay Gives Old School Spanish Cuisine A Modern Makeover at GATO
This date has now expired. Check out fresh, new dates here!
Leave it to TV-famous chef Bobby Flay to give old school Spanish cuisine a modern makeover. The menu at GATO is loaded with must-try options like eleven layer potato, kale and wild mushroom paella, and baked manchego cheese (because cheese), and the restaurant itself is designed with some hip, urban influence to fit in nicely with Lower East Side vibes. Fun Fact: the name GATO is inspired by a “mysterious orange cat” Bobby saw when he was first being shown the building prior to development. If you love coffee and sweets, but would never dare choose one over the other, order the espresso soaked bread pudding. You’re so welcome.
After dinner, arm-in-arm it over to Jacques Torres Chocolate for some—wait for it—chocolate. The impeccable cocoa goodness in this cozy hole-in-the-wall chocolaterie is a must for NYC locals (you’ll kick yourself for never having gone before). This may seem like an obvious tip, but order a chocolate chip cookie. Yes, you’ve likely eaten plenty in your lifetime, but until you’ve had one at Jacques’, you ain’t tasted nothin’ yet.
