We Think Fancy Dinners Go Well With Cheap Comedy Shows
Start off your evening with a romantic dinner at Gemma, the Italian trattoria inside the Bowery Hotel. Gemma nails a rustic-chic atmosphere with white-painted brick walls, elaborate arches, wood ceilings, and iron-wrought chandeliers that cast a warm glow over the entire restaurant. They focus on simple yet elegant dishes, with shaved artichoke salad and delicate spinach raviolini side-by-side with Italian classics like scallops fra diavolo and margarita pizza. No Italian meal is complete without wine, but they also offer a short list of inventive cocktails, like the oh-so-refreshing Italian Garden.
After, head to UCB at SubCulture for a hilarious variety show that'll probably be free, but only as expensive as $9. They usually have 3-4 shows a night and after you walk out of whatever you see, you'll be in a better mood—we promise. Visit their site to see the lineup and pick out something strange that sounds perfect to the two of you. Note, if you happen to be a UCB Improv student, show your ID for free access.
