This Mini Japanese Food Hall In Sunset Park Is A Ticket To Japan
Have you been watching too many Japan travel videos on YouTube? Get a slice of the Land of the Rising Sun at Japan Village in Sunset Park, a mini Japanese food hall and market in Industry City. Visit the vendors in the food hall area, each specializing in a different type of food: udon and soba noodles in flavorful broth, curries with rice and katsu, fried delicacies like shrimp tempura, bentos and onigiri, sushi, and even a bakery. There's also a sake bar, offering an array of cup, bottled, and flavored sakes, along with nigoris. After sampling some food stalls, get some snacks to take home at Sunrise Mart, the attached Japanese market, fully stocked with frozen ramen and dumplings, fresh produce, meats and seafood, and a host of Japanese snacks and candy.
Then head up the street to Mama Tried, a cocktail bar and little oasis among the adult shops and industrial storefronts along the BQE. The mint green exterior with its neon window sign instantly makes this place stand out, and the old school vibe inside will only further lure you in. House cocktails include a Passionate Tarte with vodka, yuzu, Peychaud's bitters, and passion fruit, and the Tulum with mezcal, lemon, ginger, honey, absinthe, and spicy bitters. Order a drink, play a tune on the free jukebox, and pretend you've been transported to another time.
