This 1920s Jazz Age Lawn Party Is The Best Way To Summer in New York

Bad news! This plan has expired. Go check out some great new ideas here.

Join the greatest Prohibition Era inspired celebration around, now in its 15th year! Don your best 1920s attire and make your way to Governors Island for the annual Jazz Age Lawn Party. Basically, it's a grand picnic where you can bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and snacks and sit among other couples dressed in their finest, as well as listen to live music, visit the pop up grooming station, or participate in a period-appropriate dance lesson. Food trucks and drinks are available for purchase on site, and you can purchase your tickets to either their Saturday or Sunday session here.

Finish off your day at Governors Island at Island Oysters, an oyster bar right on the water. Island Oysters was nominated for a 2019 James Beard Award for restaurant design, and it's clear why when you see the massive bar with a long line of seats, all facing out towards the Manhattan skyline. The oyster bar is the focal point, but they also serve other dishes like fish tacos and a lobster roll. Cocktails are totally summer vibes like the tie-dye-esque frozen Permanent Vacation and Tropicalia with vodka, watermelon, rhubarb and citrus.
