Catch Some Tropical Vibes and Garden Relaxation in Bushwick

If you're ready to take a mental break from being a New Yorker and head for island life, have your person meet you at Mad Tropical. With a wooden tiki bar, rainforest decor, and island-inspired refreshments in 16-oz “party sizes,” Mad Tropical picks up where it’s predecessor Tandem Bar left off, bringing a welcome spot for weekday drinks and weekend dance parties to the neighborhood. The tropical oasis also serves as the offshoot of Leif Huckman’s well-loved Donna restaurant in Williamsburg. Billed as Donna Chiquita, the Latin-American inspired cuisine includes menu items like cauliflower tacos and tlayudas.

After your mad tropical precursor, head to Roberta's for a dinner and vibe that'll have you thanking your lucky stars the two of you ended up in New York. Not only is the pizza (and the rest of the menu) unreal, the backyard garden is a magical oasis of cool people and positive vibes. Our favorite pizzas include the Speckenwolf, Lil' Stinker, Rob's Rebellion and Hawt Gabagool. See what all that means on their menu here. This place is busy, especially on weekends, so put your name in, then head to the backyard for a drink while you wait. Or stop by Roberta's before you head to Mad Tropical — the wait really can be that long.
