Drink Mezcal Where They Film God Friended Me
When you walk into Mayamezcal, you’ll immediately feel 10x sexier. Maybe it’s the dimly lit interior or the fumes of mezcal permeating through the air. Either way, it’s the perfect little date night spot. They have a large selection of tequila and mezcal, as well as impressively concocted cocktails. The food gets 5 stars, too—especially the ceviche which comes marinated in mezcal and served over plantains. Our recommendation is to hop on a ‘flight to Mexico’ and order the tequila tasting which comes with a selection of three tequilas and a complimentary sangrita.
Next stop is The Wayland, where the crowd is lively and the drinks are strong. The bar has a pretty iconic exterior, sitting on the corner of 9th and Avenue C—if you’re a fan of God Friended Me, you might recognize it since they often film episodes inside the bar. The drinks here are phenomenal, especially the Smoked & Roasted which is Mezcal-based (sensing a theme for the night, here?), mixed with chipotle-infused agave and rimmed with chili salt. If you’re feeling extra bold and spicy, order the oyster shooters: beautiful blue island oyster on ice, with a side of pickle brine-infused mezcal and a side of sangrita spicy sauce. Follow @thewaylandnyc to stay updated about bar happenings, as they sporadically house live music and fun themed nights.
