Party In The Subway At This Glass-Enclosed Bar and Delicious Dessert Bar

New York has its fair share of underground bars, but only Merchant’s Gate is both underground and in a subway station. Owned by the same team behind Craft + Carry and named after the Nearby Central Park entrance, this bar is all about paying homage to old-school New York. Cross the Turnstyle Underground Market to the glass-enclosed bar and you and your S.O. will have your pick of New York-style street food like hot dogs and giant pretzels with a craft twist (think pretzel buns and fancy mustard). In addition to a short selection of wines and canned beers, they have cocktails to make you feel like old money New York like the Cadillac Manhattan or the too-real There’s A Train In Front of Us, Have One More. If only there was always elderflower liqueur during train delays.

After giggling at the vaguely innuendo-y name, embrace the holy experience that is Holey Cream. From the outside, this place looks like your standard, brightly lit grab-and-go ice cream joint but it is so, so much more. Their claim to fame is a donut ice cream sandwich, but they also serve up donut flavors like Heath Bar, Fruit Loop, or Gummy Bear and ice cream flavors like Java Guatemala, Lucious Cheesecake, and Peanut Butter Caramel Cookie Dough. Sundaes, cupcakes, cookies, and healthier options like frozen yogurt and smoothies also grace the menu—but what’s the fun (or romance) in that?
