Momofuku Ko x Playtime at the New Museum
This date has expired! Find some new, exciting plans here.
Before your incredibly special dinner (re: below), scale things back a bit with a retrospective of German artist Thomas Bayrle’s work at the New Museum. Titled “Playtime,” this solo exhibition explores roughly 115 works from Bayrle, including paintings, videos, and sculptures that tackle his creative analysis of new media, culture, and global politics over the span of 50 years. Get lost together in two floors of Bayrle’s insightful—and masterful—vision of art and evolving consumer culture. Tickets are $18, and the exhibition runs from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Then, live large. You and yours are heading to Momofuku Ko in the East Village, a haute Asian restaurant specializing in a Japanese tradition called “kaiseki,” which consists of small, but intricate, dishes. With a tasting menu that includes 12 to 15 options (like foie gras with duck puff pastry and firefly squid for a steep, but worthwhile price of $255/person), prepare to be in a constant state of awe at their delicate and masterful plating. And if the food itself wasn’t impressive enough, Momofuku Ko’s sleek design and dimly lit atmosphere is equally impressive. Just keep in mind that you’ll be expected to allow two and a half hours for your meal, so definitely prepare for the evening accordingly. And with the high-demand reservations here, definitely, call well in advance to guarantee a seat.
