Set Sail for the Waterfront at this Italian Restaurant and Nautical Punk Bar
If the words organic, Italian, and waterfront create a personal trifecta of amazingness in your mind, then tonight is beckoning you to Naked Dog (see: restaurant, not an actual hairless dog). On the edges of Greenpoint, Naked Dog is an authentic Italian restaurant serving up gourmet-level options—ranging from white pork maltagliati to crispy porchetta—from Chef Ed Cotton. This candle-lit trattoria offers a warm, toasty glow amid expertly crafted dish presentations. Though you’ll want to save room for drinks later, spoil yourselves with a dessert and digestif pairing. We recommend the chocolate budino with an amaretto di saronno.
After dinner, you’ll be happy to know that the Grand Republic Cocktail Club doesn’t require a membership. Reveling in a naval punk kind of subculture, this bar continues the waterfront theme of the evening (judging by the decor and the fact that it’s named after a 19th-century Greenpoint-docked wooden freight boat). If you go for one of their $10-dollar shot and chaser options, you obviously need to keep with the nautical theme and order the Attack of the Kracken. This place even offers up low ABV options if you’d rather not rush intoxication.
