New Directors/New Films x Papillon Bistro & Bar

This plan has expired. Check out what's new here.

If you and your partner delight in being the cultural sharpshooters who discover the next hot directors “before they were cool,” then you’ll love the New Directors/New Films festival. This festival has been running for forty eight years and has launched the careers of luminaries such as Spike Lee, Steven Spielberg, and Wong Kar-wai. Head over to the MoMA or Lincoln Center and settle in for screenings (and a Q&A or two) with up and coming filmmakers from all over the world. No judgment if you tweet about your favorites to prove later that you were a stan from day one.

After the films head over to Papillon Bistro & Bar—you can’t miss the tall, red and yellow facade framed by two columns. Inside, this bi-level French restaurant keeps it classy with dark wood, dim lighting, and a long elegant bar, but it adds a bit of character with French art and pops of color (more yellow and red). In addition to standard appetizers and flatbreads at the bar, they serve up hearty and unpretentious French fare like steak frites, roast chicken, and a formidable cheese plate. All can be washed down with a variety of beers and ciders on tap, or a cocktail—bonus points if you brave the Gin & Pickles.
