Pretend Like You're In Milano, Then Drink Wine Surrounded By Antiques

Osteria at Avena Downtown is Italian, but kind of like the worldly, well-traveled Italian. With brick-walls and big open space, it could easily feel a little Parisian—like you might stumble across it somewhere in the trendy 7th arrondissement. But the understatedly modern furnishings, distressed mirrors, and artful, rustic-industrial wall, appear to be straight out of a fashionable eatery in Milano. Then there’s the food, which couldn’t really get much more authentico. Delicate red Angus carpaccio, with pioppini mushrooms, Parmigiano Reggiano and Fleur De Sel, and the star, Osso Buco—slow braised veal shank, risotto alla Milanese, gremolata—brava.

Turks and Frogs epitomizes all the intimacy and novelty of the West Village neighborhood and boasts a wine list that is “the envy of other wine bars”. Seriously sexy, and seriously good, we love them for always being so welcoming. There’s no judgment here for rolling in at 3am for that last drink. (They’re open til 4AM on Fri and Sat). Plush velvet lounges, leather-clad bar stools, romantic, candlelight and quiet little corners to get intimate in with your date, Turks and Frogs will make sure you end the night on a high note.
