Drink a 'Catcher in the Rye' Cocktail At This Morningside Heights Bar

Go for a simple night out with solid Italian fare at Pisticci in Morningside Heights. This homey, subterranean space was founded on principles of supporting sustainability and the arts community, while cooking with high-quality ingredients. As part of this effort, the owners started their own organic urban farm to bring the freshest produce to your plate, while composting any food scraps back into the garden. The focus on quality really shows with vegetable-forward pastas that offer suggested add-ons. Think an orecchiette broccoli rabe with the option of adding spicy Italian sausage, and fettuccine al funghi with optional white truffle oil. The owners support their local artist community by giving musicians a space to play live jazz on Sundays.

After dinner, roll on over to The Craftsman for a hand-crafted cocktail. In addition to a creative and reasonably priced menu (for Manhattan), they also have a selection of draft & craft beers on rotation. Serving drinks in a beautifully backlit bar with rustic chandeliers, the bartenders here know their stuff. For something on the refreshing side, try The 147, a mixture of organic cucumber vodka with fresh, cold pressed cucumber, elderflower, lemon, and soda, or for some bolder flavors try the Catcher in the Rye, a mix of Michters rye, amero, honey cordial, chamomile bitters, and Irish Mist.
