Seasonal Omakase Before The Longest Running Free Stand-Up Show In NYC

Tantalize your palate with Secchu Yokota’s seasonal omakase, or tasting menu, at its 6 p.m. seating. Chef Yokota helms his namesake East Village restaurant, sourcing ingredients from Japan, and blending Japanese and Western ideas and styles. The $75 or $100 prix fixe menus focus on tempura, Chef Yokota’s specialty, offset by two appetizers, a concluding savory “shime” dish and dessert. An exclusive, interactive experience, the restaurant’s eight seats are along a counter with a front row view of the kitchen, allowing diners to delight in the two chef’s culinary skills, as well as good banter and in-depth plating descriptions. There is also a sake sommelier who can enlighten you on the sake offerings, which rotate seasonally.

After this culinary indulgence, flip to what also makes NYC great—up and coming performers, dive bars and pizza. Check out LAp DAnce SAloon at the historic Village dive, Upstairs at 2A. With a rotating line-up of local comedians every Monday, comprised of an equal number of female and male performers, plus free pizza and no cover, it’s no secret why this is the longest-running free stand-up show in the city. The two hour weekly show, hosted by Jeffrey Emerson of Happy! (and of course, Law & Order SVU) and veteran comedian Jill Weiner, starts at 9 p.m., so arrive at least 10-of, grab a drink and settle in.
