After a Sophisticated Dinner in Midtown East, Let Your Inner Child out for Ice-Cream Making
This date has now expired. Check out fresh, new dates here!
Tao is that extravagant restaurant, bar, and club you go to when you are ready to impress your date. And it’s a night. This isn’t your last minute “where do you feel like going tonight, honey?” spot. This is your night out. Going on a less popular day helps guarantee the likelihood of a reservation because the bar will still be filled up, but you and yours should be able to grab a table for two. The space itself and the giant Buddha centerpiece take our breath away every time, and the food is excellent. While it’s definitely not cheap, splitting a few small plates and an entrée isn’t the most expensive experience. Start with the Peking duck spring rolls, and split the Tao Lo Mein at some point. Definitely get some sushi too. The Tao-hito is their version of a classic mojito with Bacardi Limon Rum. Give it a try, or go for a Sake Flight for just $20.
Now that you’ve been to the “chic and beautiful-only” Tao, it’s time to switch gears. We’re heading to CoolMess, the only ice cream spot in New York where you actually make your own ice cream right at the table. Sure, it may be marketed towards kids, but we promise it’s a seriously fun couples activity. And it ends in ice cream, so how could that not be fun? Pick your base flavor (chocolate, strawberry sorbet, or vanilla), then go to town on toppings like heath bar crunch, bananas and chocolate coffee beans. Throw it all in the machine in front of you, and start churning. Each batch is $29.99 and serves up to three people. And yes, you can bring it home.
