Have a Chill Date At This Spot Devoted to High-Quality Tea Followed by Mellow Jazz
If you can’t turn all the way up tonight but want to make date night special, have your person meet you at Té Company. Exclusively serving Taiwanese teas, this modern and serene tea house is a labor of love by husband and wife duo Frederico Ribeiro and Elena Liao. Ribeiro, a former sous chef at Per Se, helped garner Té Company a 2016 spot on Bon Appetit’s list of the top 50 best restaurants in the country. Order the pork belly and pineapple linzer cookies, split a pot of tea, and talk shop with Liao, who will happily share her vast knowledge about oolong while pouring you a perfectly-steeped cup. Té Company also offers a tasting for two. Their tea experts guide you through five different teas with a discussion of their origins, flavor profiles, and paired small plates.
Just because you aren’t turning all the way up doesn’t mean you shouldn’t turn up at least part of the way. After you’ve gotten your caffeine refresh, check out the latest future jazz legend to perform at Smalls Jazz Club. Whether you’re a complete novice or a rhythm and blues enthusiast, Smalls will make a believer out of you as you’re transported back to the golden age of jazz. While they do take cards inside, you will have to pay the old fashioned way at the door. Make sure to bring $20 each in cash money for the cover outside.
