If You Love Fried Stuff, You'll Love This NYC Tempura Haven
It’s fried everything at the first tempura-centric establishment to grace NYC. Tempura Matsui is a high-end (yes, expect $$$$) and mouth-watering addition to Murray Hill. Snagging a spot at this place will give you an intimate dining experience—the restaurant fits only 16-20 people. But once you taste the tempura here, it’ll be hard to order it anywhere else. The tempura is served one of two ways, separately with a bowl of rice on the side (Teishoku) or all at once with sauce mixed in over a bed of rice (tenju).Yum.
Now that you’ve essentially bathed in tempura, it’s time to digest and drink. Head a few blocks over to Cask Bar, dimly lit with a good selection of beers and crafted cocktails. We suggest ordering the blood orange jalapeño margarita. There’s ample room at the bar and there’s even more space downstairs if you’re looking for an even more intimate vibe. There’s a full food menu too, if you still have room...and if so, order the crispy Brussels sprouts and potatoes.
