Gobble the Fun and Familiar at this Georgian Spot Followed by Donuts
Take a trip overseas with your taste buds to Chama Mama, a traditional-style kitchen serving up Georgian staples and natural, organic wines. A good place to start if you’re new to the cuisine, or simply overwhelmed trying to decide what to get, is the “A Taste of Georgia” cold appetizer sampling plate. It includes walnut-stuffed peppers and eggplant, lesser-known treasures like ekala, or wild sarsaparilla greens mingled with a spicy walnut paste, and gebjalia, little roulades of soft fresh cheese seasoned with mint. Despite being a homestyle kitchen, the casual restaurant is minimal and modern with two rooms and plenty of space for good times.
The Donut Pub is an oldie but a goodie. And if the windows filled with trays of various glazed circles of dough don’t beckon your attention, the neon lights might. Located on bustling 14th St, The Donut Pub has been drawing crowds 24 hours a day since 1964. Boasting an “out-of-this-world maple bacon croissant donut” and other heavenly things like a Salted Caramel Croissant Donut, it’s pretty easy to understand why. The “pub’ itself looks more like an old-school diner with a long bar and vinyl stool seating, and the menu also offers up simple sandwiches like egg or grilled cheese — but how could you go past the donuts?
