Visit The Real-Life Inspiration for the 'How I Met Your Mother' Pub
It’s definitely trendy, but it’s also delicious…there’s a reason The Meatball Shop has rapidly grown from its one-stop shop in Lower East Side to a mini-chain with locations all around NYC. Here, you’ll use a marker to select your meal option from a menu where you can choose a type of meatball, sauce, preparation style (served alone, on a salad or as a sandwich) and any sides. Pair your entrees with cocktails from this place’s bar — there’s a great selections of whiskeys and beers, or a selection of housemade sodas for a non-drinking night. Bonus: Dessert’s a blast here, too — you can customize your ice cream sandwich by choosing an ice cream flavor and type of cookie.
Then, visit McGee’s Pub, better known by television aficionados as “the How I Met Your Mother bar.” This watering hole was the inspiration for the show’s notorious hangout, but there’s one notable omission in the TV version: The real deal spot has an awesome fireplace. Come here for good old Irish pub drinks. If it’s not too crowded, you might even be able to snag the gang’s favorite booth at the front of the bar. If you're HIMYM fans, stop by on “How I Met Your Mother Mondays," featuring a special menu directly inspired by the hit show.
