The Orchid Show x Webster Cafe & Diner
Bad news! This plan has expired. Go check out some great new ideas here.
The New York Botanical Garden is an underrated secret revealed only to those willing to make the trek, and the best time to go is during the annual Orchid Show. The balmy Enid A. Haupt Conservatory is filled with hundreds of different kinds of orchids, arranged in artistic displays and accompanied by informative plaques for the amateur horticulturists among us. With flowers springing toward you from the sides and dripping from the ceiling, your stroll through the greenhouse will look good, smell good, and feel good. To amp up the romance even more, grab a ticket to the Orchard evenings where you can sip themed cocktails, enjoy live entertainment, and pretend you and your lover are in the paradise of Eden.
Pass on the limited and pricey menu of the Botanical Garden’s eateries in favor of the Webster Cafe & Diner. This diner has a bright feel from its ample lighting, window sills lined with plants, and gleaming old-school diner counter with attached stools. Their extensive menu has all the diner classics, but you’re heavily encouraged to lean into their Tex Mex and Latin offerings and feast on huaraches or overstuffed tortas. Consider leaving behind even your basic cup of joe for a Spanish coffee—it’s not only delicious but double the caffeine.
