It’s a night filled with amore in the East Village beginning at Violet, a restaurant by the owner/chef Matt Hyland and the Pizza Love Emily Group. Fresh pasta and grilled pizzas are complemented with seafood paying homage to New England flavors. Simplicity is key with the spaghetti and clams. Or check out the seasonal squash pizza, a mix of sweet, savory, and spicy with winter squash, four cheeses, and Sichuan pepper. Whatever your choice, you won’t go wrong with any of their decadent dishes. Feeling extra special? Make a reservation for the chef’s table to watch them in action.

It’s time for a digestif after your meal at the Italian bitters tasting room and cocktail bar, Amor y Amargo. A simple menu awaits in this tiny, charming space with a tiled bar and bottles of bitters lining the wall. The menu scales the drink based on the level of bitters, from the lighter Di Pompelmo (grapefruit liqueur and bitters with tequila and aperol) to the more bitters forward Amaro Sazerac (housemade amaro, green chartreuse, and orange bitters). You’ll get to cozy up in this intimate space, given it’s often standing-room only. It’s also a store, so if you try something you like, inquire about purchasing bitters to take home.
