20 Spots with Fireplaces

Stay warm and cozy at these restaurants and bars with New York's rarest amenity: a working fireplace.

01

The Marlton Hotel Lobby Bar

5 W 8th St, New York, NY 10011, United States

01

The beauty of the Marlton Hotel is in its unobtrusiveness. Walking past it, you might even miss it entirely, so well does it blend in with the surrounding West Village buildings. Inside (and to the left) is where you’ll find the low-lit, velvet couch, fireplace-having bar. It's the ultimate romantic spot and so much of its appeal is in the fact that it seems to be a well-kept secret among New Yorkers. Get toasty by the fireplace and sip on a variety of both classic and innovative cocktails with your S.O.

02

Black Mountain Wine House

415 Union St, Brooklyn, NY 11231, United States

Black Mountain Wine House

Tucked in Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens neighborhood is Black Mountain WIne House, a wine bar that feels more akin to (as its name would suggest) a mountain retreat. Sip vino on their adirondack chair-lined patio on the warmer months, or cozy up by the fireplace in the colder ones.

03

The Back Room

248 McKibbin St, New York, NY 11206, United States

The Back Room

248 McKibbin St, New York, NY 11206, United States

The Back Room is one of the rare original speakeasies that remains today in NYC. To come in, you’ll first have to find the alleyway and brave the seemingly sketchy walk down. Once inside, you’ll be transported to a world of yesteryear. The bar, which operated in secrecy during the actual Prohibition Era, remains true to its history. Drinks are still served in tea cups, and the interior looks more like someone’s cozy, chic living room rather than a bar. If you can snag the ever-coveted spot by the fireplace, you’re golden for the night.

04

One if by Land, Two if by Sea

17 Barrow St, New York, NY 10014, United States

04

Yes, the rumors are true: Hamilton's arch nemesis once housed his coach and horses at this restored carriage house on Barrow Street in the Village. Today this historic spots exists as a lauded , two-story NYC restaurant where you’ll find seasonal, upscale American fare. Order a la carte or via the three- or seven-course tasting menu; seasonal dishes include Grilled Vegetable Penne and Whole Roasted Branzino served with a smoked tomato coulis. Did we mention there's a fireplace?

05

Fine & Rare

9 E 37th St, New York, NY 10016, USA

Fine & Rare

Fine & Rare refers to the fine food and rare spirits that it serves. But this Midtown spot is more than its menu; the space is also impeccably designed and exudes an opulent, old-timey aesthetic. With live jazz every night performed on an intimate stage, art deco wall decor, vintage teller windows sourced from the neighboring Grand Central Station, and a grand fireplace, this is a place where one goes to get a taste of luxury and escape the mundance... even if only for one night.

06

The Polo Bar

1 E 55th St, New York, NY 10022, USA

The Polo Bar

1 E 55th St, New York, NY 10022, USA

Polo Bar is exactly what the name suggests - a dining club designed and decorated with all things Ralph Lauren. The ambience is meant to exude a sense of posh living, so if you are lucky enough (aka famous) to secure a reservation here, you'll be dining among NYC's most elite, 'it' crowd. The bar upstairs is highly recommended; emotional prepare though as you will feel starstruck, and you will not be able to take photos.

07

Employees Only

510 Hudson St, New York, NY 10014, United States

07

Perfect for a nightcap, this dark and moody space has a cocktail menu that's well worth the hype, and a railroad-themed Art Deco interior to match. Master mixologists create these drinkable works of art which are sorted on their drink menu by classics, modern, seasonal and fancy, and prepare them in front of you donned in official 'mixologist' coats. Though this is the ultimate cocktail spot, Employees Only has a full dinner menu as well, and it's pretty solid.

08

Keens Steakhouse

72 W 36th St, New York, NY 10018, United States

Keens Steakhouse

Turn your night up a notch with dinner at one of the best steakhouses in NYC. A Manhattan landmark that’s now more than 130 years old, Keens is widely known for its mutton chops, which have wowed food critics for over 80 years. If you're going here on a date night to impress, you can’t go wrong with the Chateaubriand for two ($126).

09

Glittering from floor to ceiling with red velvet seats, a tiled-lined the fireplace, and ornate chandeliers, Cibar is where you go when you want to impress. They also have weekly burlesque shows which really add to the whole aesthetic.
