A Perfect SoHo Shopping Day

Ditch your trip to Zara or Nike, and hit up these small-biz, hidden gems in SoHo instead.

01

MarieBelle

484 Broome Street, New York, NY, USA

01

Since 2001, Marie Belle, the Soho-based chocolatier, has been creating delicious chocolate treats for New Yorkers. The woman-owned shop puts chocolates from the West on the map. How? It breaks down cacao and melts it into different types of chocolate delicacies from its Brooklyn factory. Their SoHo shop features the ultra chic Cacao Bar—a 15 seat space with marble tables where you can sip coffee or hot chocolate with an indulgent dessert on the side.

Flying Solo

434 W Broadway (Prince), New York, NY 10012, United States

Flying Solo is known as the largest platform where independent designers can showcase and sell designs. If you come here, you'll probably cross paths with a stylist sourcing pieces for shoots. It's that trendy. This spot is innovative, unique, and small biz-centric.

MoMA Design Store

81 Spring St (at Crosby St), New York, NY 10012, United States

The MoMa Design Store is probably the best gift shop we've ever been to. The shelves here come stocked with artsy items approved by the curatorial staff of the world-renowned museum. The result is a modern space with splashes of color and designs that each stand out on their own. Part museum, part concept store, part gift shop — it’s the place to both wander and look around, as well as find something special for yourself or loved ones who appreciate those gifts that exist for aesthetics over function.

The Laundress

199 Prince St, New York, NY 10012, United States

Created by duo Gwen Whiting and Lindsey Boyd, The Laundress somehow has made laundry and cleaning not only fun, but bougie. They have products for just about anything you can imagine, and all of it is good for you, your clothes, and most importantly: the environment.

The pair spent nearly two years just experimenting, researching, and developing the elixirs they were looking to find and the results paid off. In the end, they created a highly-effective, plant-based line of laundry and home cleaning products. And with fragrance collabs from the likes of brands like Le Labo, you know your home and clothes will smell amazing.

10

The Hat Shop

120 Thompson St, New York, NY 10012, United States

10

SoHo’s Hat Shop features both original hats, as well as those created by local milliners. The art is a niche one, and offers New Yorkers an opportunity to shop an assortment of already made hats, or even get something custom, made to fit one's facial type, lifestyle, and occasion. The shop’s success is based on a set of five principles which continue to guide them through to today: quality product, product expertise, honesty, outstanding customer service, and a deep passion for hats!
