The best spots to browse and buy hard-copy books.

01

Rizzoli Bookstore

1133 Broadway, New York, NY 10010

01

Rizzoli is known for publishing big, coffee table books that are artistic and indulgent. Similarly, the store is just as luxurious. With towering bookshelves, a delicately painted sky-themed mural, and massive chandeliers - there is certainly enough here to hold your attention. Swing by to explore artistic books, or for one of the stores events which often hosts big name authors for book launches.

02

Greenlight Bookstore

686 Fulton St (at S Portland Ave), Brooklyn, NY 11217

Greenlight Bookstore

The Greenlight owners are committed to fostering community and serving their neighborhood, and pride themselves on their knowledgeable and friendly staff. Since opening in Fort Greene, they've expanded to Flatbush as well as various pop-up locations around the city, and frequently host readings and author events.

03

Sweet Pickle Books

47 Orchard St, New York, NY 10002

Sweet Pickle Books

47 Orchard St, New York, NY 10002

Pickles are all the rage (and currency) at this funky LES secondhand bookstore. Donate your books in exchange for...pickles. Chill, grab a book, and eat a pickle. You get where we're going with this... This neighborhood spot also sells vinyl records and antiques, and hosts pop-up shops for local businesses and artisans. It's eclectic, it's quaint, and it pays perfect homage to the Lower East Side's deep-rooted pickle history.

04

McNally Jackson Books

76 N 4th St (Wythe), Brooklyn, NY 11249

04

McNally Jackson is one of those perfect NYC locales to unplug, find a great read, and sip on some on well-brewed caffeine. Bonus points for being pup-friendly. Stop by any one of their four locations in Nolita, Downtown Brooklyn, Willamsburg, or the Seaport.

05

The Drama Book Shop

266 W 39th St (8th Avenue), New York, NY 10018

The Drama Book Shop

For over 100 year, this bookshop has been home not just to an enormous catalogue of original theatrical works, but to their inception. In a trip to Drama Book Shop, you’ll find composers, lyricists and playwrights all cozied up on different couches writing the next "Into the Heights" (yes, this is where "Into the Heights" was written). Come be a part of theatrical history.

06

Albertine

972 5th Ave (btwn E 78th & E 79th St), New York, NY 10075

Albertine

972 5th Ave (btwn E 78th & E 79th St), New York, NY 10075

With 14,000 titles from 30 different French-speaking countries, the Albertine is the ultimate destination for all things Francophile. If you're not looking for it, you just might miss this special spot equipped with its own celestial ceiling. Albertine is the physical manifestation of the French embassy's commitment to a cultural exchange, and a trip here feels transportive. Allons-y!

07

A Novel Kitchen

151 Atlantic Ave (Henry), New York, NY 11201

Feed your stomach and your mind at A Novel Kitchen-- a space that doubles as a bookstore and restaurant in Brooklyn Heights. With a full menu and extensive book and record collection, as well as indoor and outdoor seating options, A Novel Kitchen has something for everyone.

08

The Center For Fiction

15 Lafayette Ave, New York, NY 11217

The Center For Fiction

Touting themselves as “the only nonprofit literary organization in the U.S. solely dedicated to celebrating fiction,” The Center for Fiction--with new digs in downtown Brooklyn--hosts various panels, lectures, and book groups for children and adults alike. Though their venue is relatively new, this organization has been around since 1820 and is one of only 17 remaining membership libraries in the country. Open seven days a week, enjoy their independent bookstore, café, reading room, and terrace bar. All proceeds go towards supporting their nonprofit programs.

09

Strand Bookstore

828 Broadway (at E 12th St), New York, NY 10003

Strand Bookstore

828 Broadway (at E 12th St), New York, NY 10003

The Strand is New York institution. Whether you're looking for something specific, or simply there to browse, this special spot has something for literally (pun intended) everyone. Don't skip out on the outdoor discount section where hunting for random books is as much of an art form as the books themselves.

10

Hudson Bar and Books

636 Hudson St (btwn Jane St & Horatio St), New York, NY 10014

10

This place will make you feel like a cool character in one of the books you've picked up. With special selections of whiskey that you can pair with a hand-rolled cigar, it's a lounge catered to those who would rather read than cram themselves into a dive bar. Open late, usually until 3 or 4 AM, you can come any time to sit within the upscale interior that shows a focus on attention to detail. Not sure what to choose to drink? Have the well versed staff guide you in the right direction as you nestle into a corner with your choice of a good book in hand.
