The Top 16 Most Memorable Reality TV Couples of All Time

Let’s talk reality. Or sort of reality. Here’s a roundup of some beloved - or not so beloved - reality TV couples. Both those we should take a nod from, and those we should gift a sage smudge-stick. And to ensure the inclusion of fan favorites, rest assured, I conducted a very scientific survey.

01

Trista & Ryan Sutter

01

The Bachelor Franchise
Trista was the runner-up on the very first season of The Bachelor, before she became the first Bachelorette, which was a huge deal then. I actually had to Google what The Bachelor’s name was, so obviously, she’s the queen of this franchise, and thanks to her we now have Bachelor in Paradise! Trista, who is a physical therapist, and her love poem-writing firefighter husband (I mean, how was this not scripted?) have been married since 2003 and have two children. According to her Instagram, she’s a proud dance and hockey mom, and the family takes some seriously beautiful hikes to connect with Colorado nature, and each other which is what they say is the cornerstone to their relationship.

02

Captain Lee & Mary Ann Rosbach

Captain Lee & Mary Ann Rosbach

Below Deck
These two crazy in love kids have been married for 44 years! They met when he broke the rules and hooked up with a crew member (she was his chief stew). Fast forward, and we now have the cutest couple this side of the Northern Cross. Their relationship is built on trust, understanding and good humor, which has charted them through the hard times. They still act like honeymooners when they’re together, giving a little boost to the saying, “absence makes the heart grow fonder.” It’s just hard not to smile when they get screen time.

03

Heidi Montag & Spencer Pratt

Heidi Montag & Spencer Pratt

The Hills, The Hills: New Beginnings
Proof that sometimes you just never know. Although The Hills was sadly scripted, clearly their love was not. Despite airing some laundry in tabloids and on Marriage Bootcamp (or maybe thanks to), the duo recently renewed their vows after more than a decade together. They’re also mom and dad to son Gunner, and Heidi’s releasing Christian pop music while Spencer is still selling his crystals. In fact, he really may be a bit of an oracle if you’ve ever read his takes on other couples, like Brody Jenner and his ex(es). Their family and financial issues aren’t a secret, so in a way, these two prove all you need sometimes is just each other.

04

Jax & Brittany Cauchi

04

Vanderpump Rules
Welp, they did it. There’s some divisiveness over this relationship. The couple first met over IG, followed by Brittany flying out to Vegas to meet Jax. The rest is a pretty bumpy history filled with cheating, secretly recorded conversations, more drama, and a quick Kentucky-based spin-off, all culminating with a Beauty and the Beast-themed wedding, and supposedly an upcoming Beer Cheese launch. They also seem to have a 9-year-old’s dream snack pantry, so that’s pretty cool. (And for the record, Brittany said she also found eyelashes in their bed that did not belong to Faith.)

05

Stassi Schroeder & Beau Clark

Stassi Schroeder & Beau Clark

Vanderpump Rules
Yes, please, here for this Basic B and her trucker hat knight! After we watched her tumultuous relationship with the aforementioned Jax, and some other less than stellar guys along the way, Stassi finally found a guy who complements and compliments her. He even surprised her with specially designed mirror lights ahead of her National #OOTD Day launch (June 30, in case you’re wondering), planned a perfectly quirky cemetery proposal, and was recently rolling around on the Spanish Steps to get her the best IG shot. Talk about true love smothered in ranch dressing.

06

Tinsley Mortimer & Scott Kluth

Tinsley Mortimer & Scott Kluth

The Real Housewives of New York
As of writing this, they’re back together, and there are rumors she’s leaving the show to move to Chicago for him. Tinsley’s been super open about feeling alone, and worried about never meeting “The One” or having her own family. Scott initially swept her off her feet, and we’ve all been there – the up-down, back-and-forth, which grass is greener (or browner) relationships. Like anyone, we really hope Tins (and her frozen eggs [not a bad plan]), finds true love. She hinted that he didn’t really support her being on the show or trying to reclaim her NYC status, but even if we’re not all millionaire socialites - or even if you are - make sure whomever you end up with supports what’s important to you too.

07

Robby Hayes & JoJo Fletcher

07

The Bachelorette
...and Robby and Amanda Stanton (The Bachelor/Bachelor in Paradise), Robby and Scheana Shay (Vanderpump Rules), Robby and Lindsie Chrisley (Chrisley Knows Best), Robby and Juliette Porter (Siesta Key), Robby and... whichever show he can get on next. This is basically just a Red Flag marker.

08

Evan Bass & Carly Waddell

Evan Bass & Carly Waddell

The Bachelorette Franchise
We loved the realness when she was just not that into him on Bachelor in Paradise. Their relationship and feelings ebbed and flowed, and played out much like many couples off the screen. Their solid friendship foundation seemed to lend itself to their easy connection, however they defined it at the time, and most likely helped them in the new phases of their relationship and lives. They’re welcoming their second child in November, adding to their blended family of six.

09

Toya Bush-Harris & Dr. Eugene Harris III

Toya Bush-Harris & Dr. Eugene Harris III

Married to Medicine
This couple has been together for more than 11 years, and they’re definitely the yin to the other’s yang. You can see the effort they’ve put in to better communicate, and they steadily support one another. This was especially crucial when the couple recently suffered a miscarriage, which their family bravely and movingly shared on TV. It must have been even more difficult as it was during a move to a house they were building, needing to uproot their two kids; a situation that already puts stress on most couples (them included!). She can get a bit wound up, he’s more easy going, which helps them make life a little easier for one another. But, they don’t take it for granted. They work on their marriage as their lives evolve, and always put their children’s needs and feelings in the forefront.

10

Ashley I. & Jared Haibon

10

The Bachelorette Franchise
This is a fairytale wrapped in a box of lots of used tissues. Ashley I. known for sobbing hysterically on multiple Bachelor series, and chasing Jared after seeing him on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s Bachelorette season (both ladies first came into our lives vying for Bachelor Chris Soules), finally wed her dream man. After he broke up with her on Bachelor in Paradise, they eventually became best friends, stayed the course through other cycles of Bachelor shows and relationships, became something more, followed by more of their own ups and downs. What took Jared so long to get it together? Viewers aren’t really sure, but sometimes it’s nice to see Hallmark movies come true.

11

Chelsea & Cole DeBoer

Chelsea & Cole DeBoer

16 and Pregnant, Teen Mom 2
Chelsea has been on our screens for a decade now, and we saw her successfully rise from a toxic relationship, and mark some other substantial personal successes along the way. But, this is about couples – and she and her baby-talking husband of three years are a team to reckon with. He stepped into the role of dad for her daughter (they’re now a family of five), and protector. Not only does Cole play offense between Chelsea and her ex and his family, they also admirably confronted her nearly crippling anxiety on TV, with frank discussions about therapy and anti-anxiety medication. Their vocalization of appreciation for one another through good and bad times is another good note to take. My survey shows there’s got to be bickering when the cameras shut down, but, we love to see a couple prop one another up. Especially one who met at a gas station (followed by some upfront FB stalking) no less!

12

Emily & Shane Simpson

Emily & Shane Simpson

The Real Housewives of Orange County
We don’t see everything, of course, and Emily did release some texts which we appreciated as she didn’t come out looking like the embodiment of calm (we all can relate). While relationships aren’t easy or perfect, if you’re stepping well out of your comfort zone to do something special for your husband, and instead you end up doing a sexy striptease for his parents because he won’t go, maybe it’s time to head to couples therapy or reevaluate the situation. Not all GChat proposals can have happy endings, and that’s ok.

13

Monique & Chris Samuels

13

The Real Housewives of Potomac
Chris is an MVP husband of the Real Housewives franchise. Fans love this couple’s relationship for its genuineness - their love for one another and their kids is seriously evident. They’re lighthearted, supportive, call each other out as needed, and have cute kids to boot. Reality hits home here too, as their kids don’t hide their boredom during family outings. And, like a lot of couples they’ve had to navigate challenges many can relate to - in-law relationships and working together (off the show too). They’ve known each other for nearly 20 years, leaving the friend zone for the “what are we” grey area to marriage and parenthood, and through it all, there’s no doubt they’re always on the same team.

14

Dr. Jessica Griffin & Jon Francetic

Dr. Jessica Griffin & Jon Francetic

Married at First Sight

There are lots of feelings about this one (professional integrity and what have you)... ICYMI, Dr. Jessica was the relationship therapist and matchmaker on the show, and Jon was one of the contestants who got married. But, there is something to be said about being totally transparent and going for what you want. Letting your flaws, insecurities and concerns fully show and finding someone to help you with those. It probably doesn’t hurt if that happens to be a relationship therapist, but I digress. The couple recently got engaged, so in a way, maybe the show worked.

15

Jwoww & Snooki

Jwoww & Snooki

Jersey Shore Franchise
While not romantic, this duo (+1 more meatball at times) is definitely #relationshipgoals. They always have each other’s back, even if they don’t always know what’s going on, can laugh hysterically over nothing for hours, and are raising a new generation of best friends. We also learned their true power after they joined forces for the Sam letter. The two even had their own eponymous spin-off before the 80 new installments of Jersey Shore thankfully graced our screens. They’re both open about the pressures of being mama’s, and Jenni has touched on fighting for her son’s Autism testing and treatment, and Nicole discussed the difficulty surrounding getting pregnant. From holding each other’s hair back to holding each other’s babies, it’s a good thing these two broke the first house rule: don’t fall in love at the Jersey Shore.

16

Darcey Silva & Jesse Meester

16

90 Day Fiance Franchise
...+ Darcey and Tom Brooks and Darcey and her twin Stacey Silva (I’ll leave that to family therapy experts). Do you ever watch someone on TV and just want to hug them? She survived a toxic relationship, on TV no less, and still was able to keep her heart open and take a chance on love again across the pond. She’s just looking for her fairytale, and girl, we’ll help you curate some good dates in Middletown soon. But for now, something we’ve all had to learn at some point, sometimes the best relationship you can have is with yourself. Whether single or in a relationship, self-love is the best love!
